The hotel: Peruvian hotel chain Libertador has eight properties throughout the country. The capital city's four-star, 54-room Libertador Lima hotel is located 20 to 30 minutes from the Jorge Chavez airport in the business and residential suburb of San Isidro, just north of the modern commercial centre, Miraflores.
The check-in: After a late night pick-up from the airport and 30-minute trip across the city's teeming streets, a warm welcome was needed and the staff didn't disappoint.
A doorman scooped my bags up from the boot of the car on the quiet roadside and ushered me into the smart, relatively small lobby. A cheery receptionist had my key card and reservation details already at hand.
The room: The fourth floor Superior room was vast, with a king-size bed, sofa, armchair, coffee table, small dining table and chairs, huge wardrobe, old-fashioned safe with key, large satellite TV, iron and ironing board, an iPod docking station with great sound quality, minibar and complimentary bottled water, but no kettle. Décor was in neutral colours and furnishings were functional rather than flashy but by no means staid
or in need of renewal.
The business: There was free wifi access throughout the hotel, plus a small lounge room off the lobby with two computers, desks, printers, coffee and biscuits. There are three meeting rooms: Salcantay for up to 50 people; Quenamary for up to 100; and El Mirador with capacity for 120 delegates.
THE FACILITIES: There's the El Balcón
bar on the ground floor and opposite is the small hotel restaurant which puts on a decent breakfast buffet and a good dinner menu by night. There's also a small gym, while a few minutes walk away is the prestigious Lima Golf & Country Club. Immediately outside the hotel is a Starbucks and, just a little further along, an ATM.
THE VERDICT: A good business-oriented hotel with spacious rooms, set in a safe, quiet suburb of Lima conveniently located for the principal business hubs in the city. The only drawback is a lack of shops/restaurants/bars within walking distance... but taxis are cheap.
