The location: Situated in Bath's historic Royal Crescent, the Von Essen property is within easy walking distance of Bath’s town centre. Valet parking is provided so there’s no need to search for one of the area's scarce parking spaces.
The check-in: We were met at the front door by the concierge and subsequently escorted into the lounge where tea was served and check-in was completed. We were then shown to our room, where our bags had already been delivered.
The room: A three-room suite comprised of lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Period décor and furniture added to the hotel's luxury feel. The lounge area had a real coal fire, television, DVD player, two-seater sofa, single seat chair and desk with fax machine. The bedroom contained a super-kingsize bed, dressing room with wardrobe and drawers, flat screen television and lavish en-suite bathroom.
The business: Wifi internet access is available throughout the hotel and numerous rooms are available for private meetings. Two rooms are specifically equipped for meetings, with air conditioning and state of the art audio-visual equipment.
The restaurant: The award-winning Dower House restaurant provided a range of fine cuisine for lunch and evening meals. Full English and continental breakfast were also served in the restaurant. In addition, there are rooms available for private dining.
The facilities: A highlight of the visit was an afternoon spent in the hotel's spa. The Bath House, a converted coach house and stables, has a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, plunge pools and well-equipped gym. There's also a comprehensive range of therapeutic treatments on offer.
The CHECKOUT: Check-out was swift and easy, and our bags were loaded into our car which was parked outside waiting for us.
The verdict: A stunning property and location. An ideal venue for anyone wanting to impress clients or staff at a meeting or dining function, while the spa facility is a real bonus for anyone needing to relax after a busy day. The rooms are sumptuously decorated and very homely.
